Foster Home Certification

New Light Child & Family Institute provides general foster care and adoption services to children and families from many counties within the Mid-Michigan area.  We are proud to serve the community and provide foster care and adoption services.  Our goal is to strengthen individuals and families through education, advocacy, and family-centered treatment.  In addition, New Light Consultants, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit corporation, provides individual and group therapy, family counseling and support, abuse counseling, behavioral counseling, addiction counseling, and trauma counseling.

Executive Director

Dr. Richard Watkins Jr, DSW, LMSW, CAADC

Founder and visionary of New Light and NLCFI, Dr. Rick has been committed to creating a human service program that is client center.  It has always been his belief that the quality of service starts at management, who then can influence their workers to better support their consumers.

Child Welfare Director

Tina Sentell, LLMSW

Tina has been active with NLCFI for almost 20 years.  With a deep knowledge of child welfare and foster care, her policy-driven leadership has helped propel the program and the agency to success.  She is an active participant with the Michigan Federation for Children and the Legislative Task Force.

Operations Director

Jeffrey Baxter, JD, BA

Jeff joined New Light and NLCFI in 2019 after over a decade of experience in family law.  With his background in child neglect and abuse cases, many of which occurred right here in Michigan, Jeff found it a natural transition to harness team dynamics and bring forth positive energy to better serve our clients.
